Avocado BLT Grilled Cheese (Print Version)

A gourmet twist on the classic BLT featuring crispy bacon, fresh vegetables, creamy avocado, and melted cheese.

# What You'll Need:

→ Bread & Dairy

01 - 4 slices sourdough or country white bread
02 - 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
03 - 4 slices cheddar or Monterey Jack cheese

→ Meats

04 - 4 slices thick-cut bacon

→ Vegetables

05 - 1 ripe avocado, sliced
06 - 1 medium tomato, sliced
07 - 2 leaves romaine or butter lettuce

→ Condiments & Seasoning

08 - Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

# How to Make It:

01 - Cook bacon slices in a skillet over medium heat until crispy, approximately 5-7 minutes. Transfer to paper towels to drain.
02 - Lightly spread softened butter on one side of each bread slice.
03 - Place two bread slices buttered side down on a clean surface. Layer each with cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and avocado slices. Season avocado and tomato with salt and pepper. Top with remaining cheese slices and bread slices with buttered side facing upward.
04 - Heat a large nonstick skillet or griddle over medium-low heat. Place assembled sandwiches in the skillet and cook until golden brown and cheese is melted, approximately 3-4 minutes per side, pressing gently with a spatula.
05 - Remove sandwiches from skillet and let rest for 1-2 minutes. Slice diagonally in half and serve immediately.

# Additional Tips::

01 -
  • It takes everything you love about a BLT and makes it warm, melty, and impossibly comforting.
  • The avocado adds creaminess that balances the crispy bacon without needing any mayo.
  • You can throw it together with whatever bread and cheese you have on hand.
  • It feels indulgent but comes together in the time it takes to watch a sitcom episode.
02 -
  • Do not skip seasoning the avocado and tomato, plain vegetables make the sandwich taste boring.
  • Use medium-low heat or the bread will burn before the cheese melts, patience is everything here.
  • Let the sandwich rest before slicing or everything will fall apart on your plate.
03 -
  • Press the sandwich gently with your spatula while it cooks to help the cheese melt into all the layers.
  • If your avocado is not quite ripe, leave it on the counter in a paper bag with a banana overnight.
  • Use a cast iron skillet if you have one, it holds heat evenly and gives you the most consistent crust.
